The Toyoshima Residence is a traditional house believed to date back to the Edo period, located within the nationally designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, “Marugame City Shiwaku Honjima Town Kasashima district.” In response to its adoption under Marugame City’s 2025 Proposal-Based Collaborative Project on the theme of “Preservation and Utilization of Traditional Buildings,” the Cultural Properties Preservation and Utilization Division of Marugame City, together with the Kamatoko Laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Kagawa University, have been preparing for the public opening of the residence to coincide with the Autumn Session of the Setouchi Triennale 2025 (October 3 – November 9). The purpose of this initiative is to enhance awareness of Shiwaku’s historical and cultural heritage by opening this architecturally and historically significant building to the public, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the preservation district.
